18.1.14

10 of 12 (from January to October)

It's been months since I've been to the lab, any lab, and despite the fact that I'm saving rolls that I hope don't spoil (there's been a few... accidents), I still don't know what the results are going to look like. I miss seeing the results of my film shots, even if they are not amazing.

So, a bit of a remember of how this past year has been, hoping that the next ones I post are a bit better, that I learned something along the way :)

These are the last pictures of Tirvia. I hope, in time, I can see it with snow, though I think it'll be a while until I go back. Last time I was there in winter my little niece was a few months old, she's a year now and I'm going away for a few months so we'll see.

Because I have my ticket, and soon I'll be on my own, with a backpack and in a country I've never been. I hope I can write what I want to write, and learn to take the pictures I want to learn to take. Or not, maybe I'll learn new ways to do things.

I have a roll yet to develop of the few days I've spent in Madrid two weeks ago and I'm also kind of thinking what to do with my film rolls while in such a long trip: look for local labs? send them home and ask either friends or parents to develop them? I'll take a few rolls with me but it can be an adventure to look for shops were they sell them... also, I would love to have a cute textile bag for them and a leather strap for the camera instead of the one I have, but that's my more girly side.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

This place is called Tirvia, and it's a really small village up in the High Pyrenees. And it's a gorgeous place when you don't have to take care of a really pissed off toddler that just misses her mom. I've never taken care of a child that small (she was 8 months when we were there) and that attached to her mother so I was only a nuisance for her. Luckily my mom knows what she is doing and managed to calm my niece. She vanished my father and I and for a while I managed to shot a few pictures.

And if you ever get the chance to go, try to visit the Pyrenees, really, they are one of the most amazing places of Europe.

While I wait for three more rolls from the lab (they are on holidays apparently) I've been organizing the rest of my pictures in my new laptop (the other died an heroic dead of exhaustion). These are a few of the ones we took with Marta, the final result of the steamed pears with strawberry sauce.

My mind has been doing crazy loops lately. I suppose that all the time that comes with being without a job in August, when searching gets even more non-productive (even in a country like mine where the crisis is just killing and transforming society), added to contemplating the idea of realizing a gipsy dream and leaving everything behind for the road at the worst time imaginable... I'm in a strange headspace.

I think I'm going to take a more personal gamble in here and despite all those ugly feelings sometimes the internet can give you (feelings of not measuring up to some kind of standard when it comes to constructing a voice) this is going to become a sort of journal too.

Here's the thing, I'm an inveterate believer on private and public spaces, and as such I've never really shared a lot of myself in words, and, in a way, I'm not sure I've actually shared a lot of myself in pictures... but I wish to be a better and more comprehensive communicator and that implies a blurring of those lines. You might not like it sometimes, I might not like it sometimes, but I think I'm going to ramble.

Oh! one more thing, by the way, I'm sorry it takes me so long to answer sometimes, the only excuse I have now is an absolute state of laziness... but I'll get back to all of you sooner or later, I love reading your comments!

Photographic cliché : a market! but, what do you expect, the colors were simply amazing.

I think I've only been once or twice to La Boqueria, it's always so swamped by tourists that I run the other way. But it was fun to go with Marta, it was fun to look at the food, the fruit, the bright colors.. even hearing the complains when we were taking pictures, I don't think they realized we understood what they were saying.

And I should have bought that yuca, now I want to eat it...

Formal portraits. Fabulous faces (the last one, btw, is a bust of Picasso).

And plans, plans, plans... this next October (if I do it right) I might change continents for a short while. We'll see how it pans out!
