135 - REFLECTIONS

Nic

I’ve been having a few strange days, days where I miss the sunny side of the place I used to call home. And I keep wondering why I’m not there on a sunday like these, on a park, just laying around with some friends because it’s sunny and waiting for lunch.

This is the last roll I shot in Barcelona, a place that for all his failings (and they are plenty) I genuinely like. I'll miss you and I'll miss all of you, family and friends. We'll see each other soon enough!

Meanwhile, Hello Bangkok, you are one of the strangest cities I've ever met.

I'm a bit mad actually.

I bought a cheap and small camera from an ebay store that I actually trust, a lovely Olympus AF10 with flash that I planned to have always in my bag, and all the test rolls I've been trying with it were, apparently, "not exposed" (including the ones I took at Primavera Sound, which, grrrr).

The thing is that the lab I've been going for the negatives has been returning me quite a few of my rolls completely blurred and saying they were "not exposed" which, ok, if it happens once, not a problem, I might have made a mistake, but when it happens like 5 times and with different cameras... well, now something is going on.

I wasn't sure if the problem was the camera, the rolls I've been using, me, or them... so I decided to change labs, just in case. I went today for the negatives at the new place and they didn't have a single problem. What's more, they actually did a better job, even with the packaging and the storage. Once is not a pattern, I know, but, right now I think I'll work with them and see what happens.

Photographic cliché : a market! but, what do you expect, the colors were simply amazing.

I think I've only been once or twice to La Boqueria, it's always so swamped by tourists that I run the other way. But it was fun to go with Marta, it was fun to look at the food, the fruit, the bright colors.. even hearing the complains when we were taking pictures, I don't think they realized we understood what they were saying.

And I should have bought that yuca, now I want to eat it...

Formal portraits. Fabulous faces (the last one, btw, is a bust of Picasso).

And plans, plans, plans... this next October (if I do it right) I might change continents for a short while. We'll see how it pans out!

I've never take cameras to museums, but this time I decided to use it within some limits: concentrating on the details that I liked... there was a lot.

085 - Breakfast with a friend

One of the things that I adore is having meals with my friends; not surprisingly, breakfast, brunch, whatever you want to call it, is one of my favorites. Last weekend a friend of mine, and one of the loveliest people I know, came from Girona so we could go to a Block Party + Escort concert at Razzmatazz. We stayed up dancing until 4 or 5 in the morning and we slept wonderfully. Next morning we woke fantastic, no joke, despite the amount of gin & tonics we drank, so we went to brunch-breakfast together. It was sunny and warm, you know those bright days were is almost  mandatory to stay outside? that's how it felt.

I love those kind of sundays.

084 - with the sun shining everything is turning yellow

These past days I've been waking terrified, with headaches from nerves and nightmares about leaving my work, my flat, etc, which makes me more determined to take that step. I find that when I'm scared the best way to get over it is to make something, so I really want to go to class today and work on my little print, and I'm itching to take my camera out, somewhere, anywhere, with someone to use as a model, I don't know, I want to *make* things...

Luckily this past weekend has been crazy fun, so I've been so tired that not even the usual nightmares are waking me up. Concerts, people, taking pictures, eating and drinking, and sun everywhere!

How's the sun going were you are?

It's been a week of nasty and wet weather, so, mandatory pink flowers from a past beautiful day, to remind me (us) that it certainly is spring.
